As people are waking up to the warning signs of the challenges facing our planet, there is growing recognition that together, we can be a part of the solution. Many have abandoned old habits to embrace more sustainable ways of living—from “buying local” and using reusable bags, to joining bike-to-work challenges and shopping second-hand.Still, many people say they would like to do more, but they don’t know where to start. If we want to continue to shift sustainability from education to action,…See More

How might your current work contribute to the sustainability movement?
Oct 2014 - I read Rob Hopkins' Transition Towns Handbook and The Power of Just Doing Stuff, I attended the Permaculture & Transition Convergence in Hopland in Oct 2013, and a work- trade event at the North American School of Natural Building in Dec. Right now I am finishing a Permaculture Design Certification course.
I am very interested in starting a project similar to the GreenHandsProject.org in Sacramento and a Place Making event like City Repair hosts, here in Fort Bragg. However, as Fort Bragg is truly struggling with establishing food security and needs support in developing a strong local food network, I have started to acquire some equipment to build an aquaponics system. Aquaponics uses 90% less water than soil-based ag and has many other benefits as well.
In what ways do you personally identify with the Sustainability & Transition movement? Why are you interested?
For a very long time I have had a sense of imbalance. I know now that it comes from being disconnected from our natural environment and my human nature. I want to learn all that I can about sustainable and responsible living and share my knowledge and skills with others.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
I am a creative and critical thinker, I have a passion for the movement and compassion for all people. I am a California native and a descendent of indigenous peoples from Mexico and North America.
What aspects of the sustainability movement most interests you?
Everything about the movement interests me.
