I am currently learning how to use and setup ning enhancements to setup ning social networking sites for states. I am the founder of nonprofit education foundation Macrocosm USA. Hello Sandi:

To say it takes me awhile to get back to people would be an understatement but this came to mind when looking at some of these posts.

1 bu. basil, reserve 6-9 large leaves 2 oz. butter
1# parsnips, peeled and cubed 6 eggs
2# fresh spinach, cleaned and stemmed 1 ½ tsp. salt
1 c. cream mixed with 3 tb. flour ½ tsp. pepper
1# carrots, peeled and sliced thinly into rounds 2 c. white cheddar, grated

1. Mix together eggs, cream, cheddar, flour, salt and pepper. Divide mixture into 3 parts.

2. Steam carrots. Make sure they are “well done.” Puree with 1/3 egg mixture.

3. Saute spinach. Drain well and dry. Puree with basil and 1/3 egg mixture. Season. Reserve 4-6 large leaves of basil.

4. Saute parsnips in butter until very soft. Drain well. Puree with last 1/3 of egg mixture.

5. Using a 6-cup bread loaf pan, spray bottom with Pam, then line with parchment paper, then spray again, including all 4 sides. Carefully pour in carrot mixture and lay in 3 large leaves of basil. Let rest in refrigerator for 20 minutes.

6. Lay in spinach mixture. Cover with 3 leaves of basil. Let rest in refrigerator for 20 minutes.

7. Top spinach mixture with parsnip mixture. Cover with buttered foil.

8. Bake in bain-marie for 1 ½ hr. @ 400F.

I will add a layer of partially cooked potato slices too ito extend it somethimes.

One jurisdiction that connects the northern coastal watersheds with the upper Salinas River Valley is the Upper Salinas Las Tablas Resource Conservation District. However, supervisorial districts have long separated the coastal and interior regions of our North County. This could be up for re-examination when the Board redistricts the County in the wake of the 2010 census. My first thought is that the two sides of the Santa Lucias are distinct enough for the watershed to form a natural boundary, but I am open to other thoughts before forming a position on an issue that won't be decided for about a year; we have time to discuss it and hear each other out!

One thing we have in common on both sides of the divide is that from Santa Rosa Creek north, as well as in the Upper Salinas watershed, we all drain into the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. You may be aware of efforts to expand the boundary southward, as well. While watershed stewardship to protect the ocean and habitats enroute are important everywhere, they gain some special standing where a federally recognized sanctuary is involved. I am hoping the the nascent Land to Sea Advisory Committee will raise the recognition of our responsibilities in this regard; meanwhile, the Water Resources Advisory Committee will soon be recruiting to fill a new seat specific to coastal and marine protection, which to me includes watershed protection.
It is in interior areas that the most work needs to be done to raise the profile of this responsibility, since the ocean isn't visible to inland folks, and the Coastal Act policies that protect the bottom ends of coastal watersheds have no effect upstream. Whichever side of the Santa Lucias is our home, we are all in this together.

Since you have extensive experience with computers as a community organizing tool, I am hoping you know of some communities that have created efficient computer programs to manage and coordinate carpooling systems for their areas. I am involved with the Mendocino Environmental Center in Ukiah and have been interested in helping to develope a carpool system for inland Mendocino County. I'd like to see a category on Classifieds called "Volunteers" or "Volunteer Help" or "Volunteer Services" or something llike that. That way people who wanted to volunteer for something could put their information down and people short on cash who needed volunteers could go there and look for them. I can't add a category myself. What do you think?

Hello Sandi:

Below is a salad very tasty and excellent when having big groups of people who love beans.
Yvonne Savio

1 can kidney beans
1 can pinto beans
1 can black beans
1 can garbanzo beans
1 can cannelloni beans
1 can green beans
1 can peas
1 can corn
1 can olives
1 large jar marinated artichoke hearts
1 bunch parsley, chopped
1 bunch cilantro, chopped
1 head celery, chopped
1/2 head green cabbage, chopped
1/2 head red cabbage, chopped
2 cups bean sprouts
2 cups spinach leaves
2 cups carrots, cut into bitesize pieces
1 cup mandarin orange segments
2-3 large garlic cloves
1 Tbsp Lawry’s Seasoned Salt
1 Tbsp oregano
1 Tbsp basil
1 cup oil
½ cup red wine vinegar
½ cup balsamic vinegar
¼ cup catsup

Empty all cans of vegetables (except artichokes) into colander, and rinse thoroughly.
In a 2-gallon-size or larger mixing bowl, mash garlic, cloves in Lawry’s salt until finely-textured paste. (More garlic flavor is released when mashed with salt, rather than chopped or minced.).
To mashed garlic, add artichoke hearts and liquid, oil, vinegars and catsup. Whisk thoroughly to combine.
Add parsley and cilantro. Mix to cover with marinade.
Add rinsed vegetables. Mix gently to cover with marinade.
Carefully remix every 15 minutes or so for about an hour, so all vegetables get coated with marinade.
Taste and add more of any ingredients to balance flavors.
Transfer into serving bowl and arrange artichoke hearts on top.
Best when served within 3-4 hours (flavors are the sharpest), or refrigerate to serve the next day (garlic and other marinade flavors will be more gently melded).
