Profile Information

How might your current work contribute to the sustainability movement?
I belong to a few of these online groups, but I think of the Transition movement as more "on the ground." I bring the idea of TT to our local government at every opportunity that I have.
In what ways do you personally identify with the Sustainability & Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I identify with the transition movement because I was born and raised in a town of 650 people where everyone depended on their neighbors for sustenance, friendship, and culture. I didn't, of course, realize that my situation was so unusual. I yearn for those connections again, and I know that they are possible.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
I am a longtime midwife with over 30 years' experience, so I have gotten to know many people in this community very intimately. I am an advanced facilitator of the"Work that Reconnects," a form of group work originated by Joanna Macy, which helps people understand and express their deepest concerns for the world we live in. I am a member of the SLO Mothers for Peace, the legal intervenor in the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. I am the president of the Terra Foundation, a local non-profit that sponsors permaculture design courses and workshops, and I am on the Executive Committee of the Santa Lucia Chapter of the Sierra Club.
Your Personal Website (if you have one)
What aspects of the sustainability movement most interests you?
I can facilitate the Work that Reconnects for people who are in the Transition movement. I can speak at local government meetings about the movement. I can meet with local officials to explain the concepts.

The Passing of Fran Macy, a Transition Visionary

Francis Underhill Macy - improved Russia relations

Peter Fimrite, Chronicle Staff Writer

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

A memorial service will be held on Feb. 21 for Francis Underhill Macy, an environmental activist and expert on Russian culture who dedicated much of his life as a citizen diplomat working to improve relations with people in the former Soviet Union.

Mr. Macy, who advocated for racial equality long before the civil rights movement and was a well-known… Continue

Hi Linda

We have such a deep respect for midwives - bringers of life. Thank you for being a part of this network and we look forward to our growing connection as we weave this community into a tighter circle of common vision. Blessings to you!

Hi Linda

Awesome that we had the opportunity to spend the weekend together digging further into transition. I would like to talk to you more about the community farm at your earliest convenience. If you have the time, I am available this afternoon after 3. Can we connect?

Hi Linda;

My apologies and my mistake. I had written to Kaye Bolin here in LA who is interested in doing a garden in her yard, and I confused the two of you. Nonetheless I am aware of you You're the reason I added the info about Re-evaluation Counseling to my profile.

Thank you, equally, for the work you're doing. Johanna Macy is wonderfully important and the work that reconnects is the central to the essence of the work before that is before us all. If you are familiar with Deena Metzger, I'm a part of her Dare' group, along with the Farm and the Aztlan Mexica Nation Harmony Circle. Thank you so much for writing to me - I had especially wanted to connect with you, although I didn't expect it.

Hi, Linda;

Thank you on behalf of all of those with the Farm - you're one of us, of course, and we know that. If you are interested in working with the Farm directly, it's easy to get involved, and we are shifting our sights now very deliberately in the direction of transition work. Everyone single one of us is essential and necessary at this Time.

Our backyards garden project is only in the planning stages - so it' s not yet for public awareness, but let's talk about it. You have my info.

and your face as well. I wonder why we don't ever see each other. You Skype? I just found my way to your comment just now and realized each time I see your name on the net (what, twice a week?), I think it would be nice to chat with Linda. You do great stuff, and know great stuff. It is so cool that we are awakening at this time.

Hi Linda,
I've been away at a Walking Lightly on the Earth interfaith retreat at Quaker Center. Wonderful interactions, and guest appearances by Jon Young on mentoring for nature connection and Drew Dellinger reading his poetry by firelight when the electricity failed in the storm.
I'm glad it's not too late to sign up for Joanna's workshop at DD. I'll also be there for the Transition training the next weekend. Had my first steering group meeting there last Friday on way to retreat. My email changed three years ago to Thanks for replying!
