Profile Information

How might your current work contribute to the sustainability movement?
I was a steering committee member of Transition Los Angeles City Hub from the beginning. Am the initiating member of Transition Culver City. Attended Environmental Changemakers meetings in Westchester (Los Angeles), attended Training for Transition December, 2008. I organized a workshop based upon Joanna Macy's work: "The Work that Reconnects" - it was held in the west LA area on March 28th 2009. We co-hosted a two day transition leadership training with TLA. I am now (as of 6-15-10) living in Los Osos CA - just 10 miles west of San Luis Obispo. We have discovered wonderful Transition folk active here and are excited to join them in moving this wonderful community towards a powerd-down future. I am starting a TimeBank for the SLO area called Central Coast Hour Exchange. Find us on Facebook - or send and email to centralcoasthourexchange@gmail.com if you're in the area and interested in hearing more.
In what ways do you personally identify with the Sustainability & Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I am VERY ready for life as described in Rob Hopkins Transitions book. I have been living in alternative and intentional ways most of my life. Home educating my children in the 80s, (providing professional support for other families doing the same), simple eating, careful diet, biking busing and walking for basic transportation, no television for my whole adult life. Transition is the most positive exciting response to PO, CC and the economy that's out there.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
I retired from being a teacher of special education for visually impaired in June 2010. I am an AmSAT certified teacher of the Alexander Technique ( http://www.alexandertech.org/ ) as referred to in Rob Hopkin's Transition Handbook, p 110 (YAY).

I started one of the official Transition Towns in the USA,(Transition Culver City) and am excited to join others working for transition in my new home town. See above about the Central Coast Hour Exchange.
What aspects of the sustainability movement most interests you?
Alternative economy, heart and soul, transportation, water, education, ...
Your Favorite Books/Websites/Blogs/RSS Feeds for Information about the Sustainability Movement
I have a list of about 50 websites, and have not yet organized them to know which are my "favorite". "The Transition Handbook" by Rob Hopkins; Agenda for a New Economy (Korten); The Urban Homestead (Coyne and Knutzen);Environmental Change Making (Poyourow and Rood); Holmgren's Permaculture; YES! magazine

Hi Kay! Thank you for coming together with us to support LocalGrow.org - it is an honor to meet the person heading up LA! Are you familiar with Andy Lipkis & the Tree People projects going on in that area? Here is a video:

Welcome Kay to the site!
Thats a great garden at that church site where you have meetings. It sounds like you will be very helpful to people who want to slow down and live a more simple life.

Will you be getting help from Enviro Changmakers to redo your large front lawn?

you may wish to join Joannes group

have fun browsing and connecting.
