"Hi John. Thanks for joining! Do you have a sense for the best scope of a local transition group? "Central Sierra" was just my initial idea, and was inspired by the Central Sierra Permaculture email list:…"
"Hi Folks. I recently moved to Mill Valley, and I'm passionate about sustainable living, permaculture, and figuring out ways to support new economic paradigms. I'd love to connect with like minded people in the area.…"
How might your current work contribute to the sustainability movement?
I've been exploring building a new slant on crowd funding platforms like kickstarter or indiegogo, but ties in the notion of alternative currencies to better support lifestyle businesses and non-profit/social enterprises.
In what ways do you personally identify with the Sustainability & Transition movement? Why are you interested?
It seems clear that that the mainstream economic system cannot continue much longer and the remaining limited resources on this planet are being consumed rapidly through more and more destructive means. I want to contribute to building new communities and economic systems that will provide a better life for my family in the years ahead.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
I'm a software engineer and architect with extensive experience in building scalable web applications.
What aspects of the sustainability movement most interests you?
I think alternative currencies, time banks, and barter networks will be critical components of a sustainable economic model. I'm also very interested in facilitating local produce market places.

Hi Joseph and belated welcome to the Transition California Community! Our team moved during Nov/Dec to a new headquarters so we got way behind on our work here.
If you are interested in alternative currencies and economic aspects of our transition perhaps you would like to assist another member from Transition San Lorenzo in managing TCA's 'Great Economic Transition' blog that is just getting started. One of the goals is to create a 'B' Economy handbook that lists resources and ways of developing local economies. We are looking for TCA members to contribute to that blog - ideas, opinions, resources, experiences, etc. Let us know if you are interested and we will hook you up.
