Profile Information

How might your current work contribute to the sustainability movement?
I'm heading up the Fellowship of Humanity, a deep green humanist (non-theist) church community that's making every effort to be informed about what's needed for our transition to sustainability and then going the extra mile to meet these needs.
In what ways do you personally identify with the Sustainability & Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I identify with Life and want to see Life on Earth survive this terrible crisis of mass extinction. All of Earth's eco-systems are going down and I want to help transition my community and all its inhabitants, plant and animal, to sustainability.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
My background is in writing, philosophy, organizing, and desk top publishing. I use all of these as the chief director of the Fellowship of Humanity. I organize the Fellowship both physically and intellectually, a tight ship with vision and purpose.
What aspects of the sustainability movement most interests you?
I encourage progressive activists in the way of a minister; I urge the Fellowship of Humanity to pursue the goals of the transition movement. I run a progressive documentary film series on Wednesdays and a progressive activist speaker series on Sundays.

Florence Windfall's Blog

Hello All,

I urged and invited a few activists I know, maybe 5 or 10, to join the transition movement and network with other transitioners on "Transition California" or "Transition East Bay." I gave them this website URL. But not one of them has joined I don't think. I don't get it. Am I a leper? Do I have too much body odor? Am I missing something? It seems pretty crucial to me that all of us concerned about our crashing economy and obsolete society would want to network.
Thanks for listening!

I accept your offer of friendship. We should all be acutely aware just how far away we are from all being friends, a pre-condition for realizing a transition from a death to a life culture and affirming a future for the youth and children.

Thanks for your kind words with respect to my work. I implore you to think about and act upon how you can help us to make the plans real. Other than that they are just words and may, as not so well, be blank empty space.

So let's work together as Friends.

Hi Bob,

That's a good idea! I hadn't thought of that! Yes, I'll show the last one that talks about the filmmakers. We've shown the whole series here -- they are so beautiful. But sad too because I feel like we're watching a museum piece on what the Earth was like some years ago, but it's dying more rapidly now. I showed the whole series here, but not the last piece on the filmmakers! So that's what I'll show this month! And if you say it's good, I know it's good. Thanks much, again, for your perfect suggestion! And thanks for the Renewal flyer too! I'd like to do a series on Religion and the Environment, maybe this summer.

Hi Florence.

hmm an earth day film.... how about renting planet earth and showing one... they are beautiful but the LAST one in the series which wasnt shown on the Discovery channel actually has the photographers and filmmakers saying on screen what they felt about doing the film which is very good. have you seen the series? its remarkable.. I sortof think that the BBC sold some of the footage to Disney whos film on the earth is hitting the theaters soon.

also check out RENEWAL.. about religions taking on enviro issues. I will send you a flyer if you wish.

Hi Florence, Oh yes dear I totally agree that our energies should be localized. I just like the idea of keeping in touch with people from all over to share ideas. Problems seem to be universal. And more than likely someone has experienced something similar and has a solution or suggestion on how to fix it. So just thinking if I could put something out there friends could lend a cyberhand. Two heads are always better than one. Say What? Thanks Flo Jeanne

Hi Judith,
I'm glad you found your gloves! And of course I'm glad you had a good experience at Humanist Hall! Let's do it again! I hope I'll be seeing you again on Wednesday the 11th. If you have other plans that day, there's always the next Wednesday, the 18th! We're going to start with a potluck next time. A "solar church" -- that's a nice expression. I thought about calling this place the "Live Oak Revival" too and "First Church Gaia."
Thanks for writing me!
